IMPORTANT UPDATE – WE ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT JOINING CHRIS HILL, SNOWBOY AND GARY ON THE NIGHT IS……………….JEFF YOUNG!!!!!

November 1972 the legendary maverick DJ, CHRIS HILL started his residency at The Goldmine and the rest is history…

On Sat November 9th 2013 we will be celebrating the fourth OFFICIAL Goldmine Reunion, and because you have been asking us to go back to Canvey Island, this time we are going back to the roots of the Goldmine and as near as we can to when it all started. Just a stones throw away from the the old place we remember so fondly. We hope you can join us at The Monico.

Along with the Caister Weekender and the Lacy Lady, the Goldmine is that which Chris Hill is remembered for, and now it has been firmly established in its rightful place as the premier soul and jazz/funk music event of all time! He is looking forward to returning to Canvey…

Just added to the bill is the man we so wanted, to make the event complete……………..JEFF YOUNG. Yes!!!

What can be said about Jeff? He came to prominence as Chris’ back-up DJ at Mine and playing at Caister and the big all-dayers as part of the Funk Mafia. Jeff continued onwards and upwards forging a stellar career on Radio 1, Radio London, Capitol and Jazz FM as well as being highly-respected and influential in the record industry. We are overwhelmed to be able to add him to this bill. This is the one YOU wanted!

Joining them on the night will be SNOWBOY
Of course, most of the legendary Funk Mafia DJ’s appeared at the Goldmine such as TOM HOLLAND , CHRIS BROWN, SEAN FRENCH, MICK CLARK and particularly DR BOB JONES, but with the obvious exception of JEFF YOUNG, from 1978 til 84, he, Russ B and Grumpy Brown were the only Black music DJ’s to play regularly at The Goldmine. Their monthly Wednesday ‘Jazz Funktion’ nights (originally started by Snowboy under his original DJ name, Mad Marx) became so popular that Chris Hill started to use either he and Russ or he and Grumpy to take care of the Mine on Saturday’s when Caister was on, which was an enormous honour for them to do.

Joining CHRIS, JEFF and SNOWBOY on the night will be none-other than GARY DENNIS.

Gary will not need any introduction to any of you. Not only does he own one of the greatest Black music record shops in the world, CRAZY BEAT, as a DJ he was one of the unsung heroes of the 80’s Rare Groove scene and created havoc in Essex with his roadblock Friday nights at Chesters/Waves, Sunday nights at The Windmill in East Hanningfield (500 people on a Sunday night?) and the long-running institution, The Hadleigh Suite.

If you’re a hardened Goldminer you will know Gary as a weekly regular and important punter there from 1975. He also played at the Mine regularly for years after the ‘Chris Hill’ period. Gary relishes doing the Goldmine Reunion because as he has a photographic recall of all the tunes that were big at the Mine he cannot wait to take us back and remind us of those amazing records. From Donnie Hathaway to Chick Corea, from BT Express to Mastermind.

Other DJ’s in residence Mr Flip, DJ Bigger and Cruise FM boys: Scotty, Marky P, DJ Dubz & Stacy B in effect and supporting this amazing event.
